Devi’s Instruction to Hari

Men speak much of God.

One calls Him Vishnu, the Preserver, and sees Him reflected in all that moves and all that rests. Another trembles before Shiva, terrible and magnificent, crowned with the moon and bearing destruction in his hand. A third bows to the Sun at dawn, noon, and dusk, calling it the Highest Self. Others divide their devotion among fire, wind, and the ancient gods.

Thus, the crowd multiplies names.

But is the Eternal divided? Or is it man who is divided?

The learned argue about proofs. They speak of perception, inference, testimony. Some add resemblance; others, presumption; still others, witness and tradition. The scholar adds proof to proof as though stacking ladders to storm heaven.

Yet the highest cannot be reached by ladders.

The Vedanta whispers something far more unsettling: the Supreme cannot be grasped by these proofs at all.

Here reason falters.

For what is the use of perception when the Eternal is not an object? What is inference when the Infinite does not stand among finite things? What is testimony when the Truth demands not hearing but becoming?

Therefore, one must turn inward.

Not to collect arguments, but to refine the self. Not merely to think about Brahman, but to stand before the possibility of it. The buddhi must discriminate — not between doctrines alone — but between illusion and earnestness.

The wise say that one Power moves through all: creating, preserving, destroying; burning in fire, flowing in air, sustaining the earth. And yet, what is this Power to the individual who merely observes it?

A force pervades the universe — yes. But unless it becomes the ground of one’s own existence, it remains a concept.

For consider this: without force, nothing can act. And without inward relation to the source of that force, man himself cannot truly act.

Thus the question is not whether Brahma creates, Vishnu preserves, or Shiva destroys.

The question is:

Will you relate yourself to the Power that enables your own existence?

For truth is not proven — it is lived.
