As the Devi killed the mighty demon Mahishasura the Devas beheld her in praise and chanted the following hymn

ब्रह्मा सृजत्यवति विष्णुरिदं महेशः
शक्त्या तवैव हरते ननु चान्तकाले।
ईंखा न तेऽपि च भवन्ति तया विहीना-
स्तस्मातत्वमेव जगतः स्थितिनाश्नकर्त्री ।॥

Through your power Brahma creates the world, Vishnu governs it and Mahadeva destroys during the great dissolution. No one can function being bereft of your power.

कीतिर्मतिः स्मृतिगती करुणा दया त्वं
श्रद्धा धृतिश्च वसुधा कमलाजपा च।पुष्टिः कलाथ विजया गिरिजा जया त्वं
श्रद्धा, धृति, वसुधा, कमला, अजपा, पुष्टि, कला,
तुष्टिः प्रमा त्वमसि बुद्धिरूमा रमा च

You are fame and the embodiment of idea and ideals. You personify goal, mercy , compassion and faith. You are the flame that powers everything that is manifest

त्वं धारणा ननु न चेदसि कूर्मनागौ
धतुं क्षमो कथमिलामपि तौ भवेताम् ,पृथ्वी न चेततवमसि वा गगने कथं स्था-
स्यत्येतदम्ब निखिलं बहुभारयुक्तम्

You sustain this universe and you power the divine celestials towards action

भोगप्रदासि भवतीह चराचराणां
स्वांशेर्ददासि खलु जीवनमेव नित्यम् ।स्वीयान्सुराञ्जननि पोषयसीह यद्र-
त्द्वत्परानपि च पालयसीति हेतोः

You nourish the entire universe through your blessings. You partake actions to restore balance in the Universe

विद्या त्वमेव सुखदासुखदाप्यविद्या
मातस्त्वमेव जननातिहरा नराणाम्
मोक्षाथिभिस्तु कलिता किल मन्दधीभि-
नाराधिता जननि भोगपस्तथान्नेः ॥

You are the supreme knowledge and you liberate the world from delusion and ignorance. You are the ultimate consciousness. May your kindness always shower upon us. Let our devotion be always steadfast towards you.

सुखे वाप्यथवा दुःखे त्वं नः शरणमद्धुतम् ।
पाहि नः सततं देवि सर्वैस्तव वरायुधैः

In times good or bad may you always protect us with all your might for there are no other means of our security than your everlasting grace
